The Fetal Ultrasound Program (FUP) is an intensive skill enhancing training course aimed at equipping you to perform even better fetal scans. The course is conducted by Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF - UK) trained and accredited fetal medicine specialists who will also provide continual mentoring for the entire duration of the program. The course allows better understanding of evolution of fetal anomalies and their management. There will be video demonstrations and discussions of normal and abnormal cases which will help you to understand the development of various anomalies and management of the same. The fetal ultrasound course is aimed to improve your scanning skills and help you acquire the FMF (UK) certifications in NT (nuchal translucency) and anomaly scans. FUP is now FMF UK approved course too !!

14 modules in the course focus on normal views, common abnormalities and case discussions. The unique feature of FUP Onsite is the ability to submit fetal scan images online at regular intervals for review and obtain an objective feedback by the FGi faculty. In addition, all this is achieved with little disturbance to your routine practice, as this is one Sunday/ month class onsite. A 10 days' observership in registered Fetal Medicine Centres is optional and can be distributed over the course period.

Application process:

Delegates can apply online for the training and submit the required documents.Applications will be reviewed and online/tele interview will be scheduled with the faculty.Delegates will be informed on enrolment status post interview.Upon approval delegates will be required to pay the course Fee and subsequently enrol for the courseCourse Fee can be paid online using net banking, credit or debit cards in currency of your choice, or through direct transfer to the account via cheque or demand draft.
The ONSITE course typically includes –

Interactive Onsite Classes: Theory will be covered in various modules on one predefined Sunday a month. This will comprise of First Trimester Scan, Central Nervous System, GIT, Fetal Thorax, Abdominal Wall, Genito Urinary system, Cardiac, Face, Skeletal System, Multiple Pregnancy, Fetal Growth & Doppler, Preterm Delivery, Fetal infections, Genetics for all and many more. In addition to didactic lectures with practical tips on imaging, normal anatomy and a wide range of fetal anomalies specific to the system will be discussed. In addition, case discussions will illustrate the approach to day-to-day dilemmas in fetal scans. There are video demonstrations of abnormalities pertaining to particular body systems and relevant case presentations. Some classes have guest lectures from same/other fields which will be typically related to the topic.

Image Submission: This is a unique feature of this course. Following a class on a specific fetal system, the next 8 weeks, the delegate submits images pertaining to that system. The images are ONLY for the normal views. There is an OBJECTIVE feedback on each image that is submitted. This helps the delegate understand the deficiencies, if any in the images and prepares them to capture correct images. The delegate submits a total of 20 images for each sub-module, of which 80% or more images approved/ accepted, is considered a “pass score”. If the images score less than 80%, then the delegate gets an opportunity to resubmit the images after correcting the deficiencies. In this way, the image quality improves with subsequent submissions.

Observership: Delegates can spend 10 days in total (preferably 2 days at a time) over a period of 12 months at a certain fetal medicine unit that has FMF (Fetal Medicine Foundation) approved operators to observe and learn directly from the faculty and their mentors. This helps them to put the above in perspective and also observe how patients are counselled, learn about fetal abnormalities managed and procedures performed. This also enables them to learn some “tips and tricks” directly from the FGi faculty who are all clinical experts whilst live scanning is going on.

Our FUP (Fetal Ultrasound Program) courses will help you enhance your scanning skills enormously but this should not be considered as a replacement to a full time hands-on fellowship programme.

Including NT and anomaly scans, sonologists need to perform at least 5 obstetric scans per day.
For sonologists practicing in India, a prior PCPNDT machine registration is compulsory.
Kindly submit a copy of your PCPNDT certificate and a government approved ID proof (driver’s license/ Aadhar card/ copy of the front page of passport) along with the application form
A tele-interview will be conducted at a specific time by the faculty of FGi, following which, you will be enrolled, once the course fee is paid.

Case Discussion

There are 3 aspects of the Fetal Ultrasound Program and all the three are mandatory for obtaining “Certificate of Completion”.

Theory: Theory in various modles will be covered on one predefined Sunday a month. The topics covered will comprise of First Trimester Scan, Central Nervous System, GIT, Fetal Thorax, Abdominal Wall, Genito Urinary system, Cardiac, Face, Skeletal System, Multiple Pregnancy, Fetal Growth & Doppler, Preterm Delivery, Fetal infections, Genetics for all and many more. Normal anatomy and a wide range of fetal anomalies specific to the system will be discussed in addition to didactic lectures with practical tips on imaging, . In addition, case discussions will illustrate the approach to day-to-day dilemmas in fetal scans.

Images Submission: Each system has a certain number of image submissions that will be needed for an objective assessment by the faculty. This is mandatory to complete the submission within the defined time. In addition, a score of 80% must be achieved in each image and in the module as a whole. This will help the delegate to diligently follow the FMF guidelines on imaging and improve his/ her scanning skills immensely.

Certificates will be issued only on completion of all Image Submission Assessments.

1. When is the next batch for FUP onsite going to start?

The next onsite batch for FUP starts in October 2018.

2. What is the process for enrolling?

The process is as follows:

Login to FGi and register.
Upload your CV, PCPNDT certificate, and a copy of your driver’s license/ PAN card/ Aadhaar card/ Ration card/ Voter ID
Application is subject to review by faculty of FGi. An interview call will be scheduled with faculty and an intimation of approval will be sent to you.
You will be required to pay the course fee, once the application is approved, .
You will be duly enrolled to the training and given access to the FGi platform, following this.

3. How would I be intimated about the classes?

A course calendar will be provided in the first class along with time and venue which is subject to only slight changes depending upon availability of faculty with sufficient prior notice.

4. Where will the onsite class be conducted?

The onsite classes will be held at a fixed venue will be duly informed by the site coordinators.

5. What are the class timings?

The classes will be conducted every second or third Sunday of the month held from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

6. Does FGi provide any accommodation for outstation candidates?

No, we do not. But we can suggest feasible options close by.

7. In case I miss a class, will it be recorded or could I get a special extra class?

The live sessions are not recorded and there is no provision for an extra class.

8. I have an emergency and so missed the class, can I access the study material?

Yes, the entire study material for FUP is available on FGi for a fixed price. You may avail this at a discount if you are already a delegate.

9. Do I have to submit images? If yes, why?

Yes, image submission is mandatory. It is a unique feature of the program. Primary aim of this program is to enhance the obstetric scanning skills of students and hence are required to submit images at specific intervals so that the faculty can provide an objecive feedback on individual submissions.

10. I have the machine but don’t have PCPNDT number. How do I get it?

Yes, PCPNDT number is mandatory for enrollment and is required for image submission.

11. How to retrieve the images from the screen?

You need to copy the images on a pen drive/ hard disk and transfer them to your laptop/ desktop and then upload it on FGi for review. Also, once you enroll in the training, the introduction will cover the steps to upload the images

12. What is the time frame for uploading images?

Every module image submission lasts for 8 weeks. It is important that you submit your images during this period. However, some modules like Cardia and First Trimester scan, image submission time frame can extend upto 16 weeks. It is highly recommended that you follow the timelines for image submissions, to get maximum benefit from the course.
